The City of Renaissance

Firenze, arguably the art capital of Italy, has the ability to captivate your soul and force you to slow down and appreciate the little things. From the intricate molding on the Duomo to the artistic gelato craft to the treasured history of Ponte Vecchio, this city is truly unlike any other.

The Duomo

Simply frolicking along the streets and taking in the sights and sounds the city has to offer, instinctively you alter your mindset. While roaming through the uncountable art museums, the thought that Michelangelo and Donatello traveled the same roads amazes me.

I was lucky enough to stay at the Hotel Duomo and enjoy the view of the glooming monster on my balcony, every morning while having my espresso and brioche.

When visiting the Duomo (along with many churches in Italy,) you must have your shoulders and legs covered out of modesty reasons. This ancient ideology leads you to reflect on how much things have evolved, while some have maintained traditions.

If you have the opportunity to climb to the top of the Duomo, do not think twice about it. Although the climb is very long, being 463 steps sans elevator, and takes you through narrow passageways at points, it is all worth the hassle when you overlook the beautiful city. It is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to see the cultural capital.

Ponte Vecchio

Firenze has mastered the ability to preserve their historic past while still incorporating modern elements of today’s world. It will always be one of my favorite cities to explore and discover something new during each visit.
