Romin' Around

This past summer, I had the opportunity to visit my family with my mom who lives in Tuscany, Italy. We finished our month-long voyage in her favorite city, Rome, and now I realize why.

Rome is one of, if not, the most unique cities on this Earth. There truly is nothing like it. While you are wandering around the streets and small alleyways, you can easily stumble upon monuments that are timeless, such as the Pantheon. We were lucky enough to stay in the square that holds this ancient treasure, Piazza della Rotonda. There would be street musicians serenading us each night as we wondered the bustling nightlife.

At the top of my list was to visit the Trevi Fountain, fulfilling my Lizzie McGuire childhood dreams. According to my mom, we had to throw in three coins each: one guarantees your return to Rome, the next ensures a new romance, and the last ensures marriage.

We made it our mission that by the end of our week in Rome, we would have decided who has the best gelato in the city. This required trying about two new shops per day, however, we made sure to balance that while walking about seven miles each day. I can safely say at the top of our list was Gelateria I Caruso.

Part of my family that lives in Italy

One of the most touching experiences was exploring the Vatican on a private tour. My mom wrote to the Pope in a plea to obtain a spot on the infamous tour of viewing Saint Peter’s tomb. Luckily, we were able to explore the sacred cathedral and its undergrounds.

Regardless of the number of times I am able to travel to Italy, Rome will always hold a special place in my heart and will never cease to amaze me with all of its wonders.
