This hidden treasure is known to the few locals out on the Eastern End of Long Island. Generations have been flipping the pages for decades, getting the inside scoop on the everything from school budgets passing to the backroads to venture in order to escape summertime traffic. Unfortunately, people also turn here to see the local tragedies in the obituaries and which former high school classmates have gone down a darker path in their lives.

However, over time the publication (both online and in print) has been getting more and more attention from outsiders invading the Hamptons, and stealing all of the secrets of our community.

While it still has a somewhat secluded atmosphere, the publication is obtaining more and more publicity but that will never stop the dedicated souls from scanning the pages daily.

Buzzfeed News

I first came upon this site based solely on taking personality and random quizzes. I dug a little deeper and found out that they wrote news stories that often get overlooked by the public or not reported by major news companies. For instance, their stories range from major news about the President and Congress to stories hidden in the dark such as an abused Texan woman almost being murdered by her boyfriend.

The beauty of this site is that it not only has more heavy topics (such as politics) but also more light-hearted articles. One can go onto Buzzfeed and exit out of the window without feeling like our country is full of corruption and hatred (common feelings after reading current news). This wide array of stories (not to mention videos, quizzes, reviews, and cooking tips), draws a large audience of young adults and 20-30-year-olds. These many platforms help get the youth of America more aware and involved in what’s going on in America.

National Geographic

This website would probably be my most visited page on my browsing history (besides Google and my email). Contrary to the traditional ideas of politics that come to mind when someone says the word “news,” NatGeo offers a different take on issues going on around the world. Their focus is more environmentally directed and they aim to make those who inhabit this planet more aware of their surroundings and how much their actions have an impact.

I am always drawn to their photography section since one of my passions is photography. They have a photojournalism blog that showcases different submissions of photography from individuals across the globe. Each photo submitted tells a story along with it. Whether it is a light-hearted matter such as a group of dolphins jumping through the Pacific or a plastic mound floating on the Pacific, equivalent to the size of Mexico, I can always rely on National Geographic to display new information in an exciting non-conventional manner.

CNN

I stumbled across this news source unintentionally but it has since become a go-to site to get the latest updates. My phone would randomly pop up with notifications of the most recent posts from various news sources but I soon began to favor when CNN popped up. The notifications were mainly political and breaking news about Trump or legislative bodies but I realized that there was more than meets the eye.

One article, in particular, led me to become more intrigued by the news source. An article popped up that was about China and their two-child limit law. My brother had told me about this rule in China, however, I thought that he was just joking because I could not wrap my mind around the concept. According to the article, the government was finally loosening up on their strict guidelines that limited each set of parents only two children. They were originally only allowed, one child.

This site made me expand my views from outside of the United States and encouraged me to have a more global standpoint. I make an effort to check the source at least once a day to try and stay as updated about world news as possible.

Although an unconventional form of news, I believe that fashion plays an important role in society and has an impact on the world around us. I turn to the holy grail of all fashion advice, Vogue, for all the latest updates on new styles and trends for each season. Fashion to me is more than just wearing clothes. It is a way to express yourself and who you are, without the use of words, to strangers around you.

Vogue helps all walks of life feel confident in their skin and gives tips and tricks on how to enhance your natural beauty. While enforcing courage in its readers, Vogue also keeps their audience up to date on health issues. For instance, one of the latest articles is all about new technology helping detect breast cancer in a matter of just minutes.

These stories along with thousands of others keep individuals up to date and inspire “ordinary people” that they too can be just like those they look up to who walk the runway.
